Just Another Random Update

I ended up with a mild cold that went straight to my chest (obviously a male virus... ;D ).  It wasn't severe, although my boss decided otherwise.  He literally escorted me from the building at noon on Monday, drove me home and told me not to come back to work until Wednesday morning.  If then.

By Wednesday morning, I was much better, and even more so today.  While on the one hand I'm glad it was a mild cold, on the other I would have liked to have had a mild version of the H1N1 flu instead so I could (a) get it over with, and (b) get my immunity built up to it and therefore avoid getting the flu shot.  I don't ever get the normal flu shot, but because I do have a mild case of asthma, I'm thinking I'll get the H1N1 shot, just to be safer.

Anyway, I'm feeling much better.

In terms of my projects...

I've been happily working away on Oasis, with about 22 letters that are almost finalized.  Don't panic!  I won't be posting 22 letters in one day!!  They are all part of a specific story arc, though, so I need to complete them pretty much in tandem.  I'm also at the point of seeing if more letters need to be added to this particular story arc or if some need to be deleted.  I have to say I'm having SO MUCH FUN with this project!!  Which probably just means I seriously need to get out more...  ;D

As for my   autumnwriteproject, I'm very, very behind:

***

My low word count, though, is because I'm editing Oasis rather than full-bore writing, so of course the word count per day is lower than expected.

However, with November looming, that will change because - of course - November is Nanowrimo!!  And I'm participating, with an original fic.  Whether I'll make it to the 50,000 word mark or not is going to be the question.  I haven't written original fic (meaning original characters, of course) since I was probably in first year university so *cough*24*cough* years - and even then, I never finished anything.

Anyway, I'm planning on a chick lit kind of thing...except maybe it's not really chick lit...but it is most likely going to be a piece of crap - although the quality of it is not really the point for me.  For me, it's to just actually write something with original characters - and hopefully finish it (not just reach 50,000 words) .  Basically, I want to do it because it's there!!  LOL

That's about it, I think, for this random update.  Rest assured that when I post the next set of letters (possibly sometime this weekend or early next week - *crosses fingers*), there will be a steady stream of them (probably 3 every couple of days) until this story arc is fully posted.  Then we'll see how long it takes to post what happens next...  :)

Aw, I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, but I'm glad that you're starting to feel better.

Flu...*shudders* I'm so not getting the H1N1 flu shot. I don't even get regular flu shots (I had the flu once so far, about...ten years ago?) But the H1N1 is still so untested, and I've heard of a lot of people getting the flu when they get the shot. People are getting told, too, that they have swine flu and not even being tested for it. (My cousin came down with the flu and that's just what happened to him--he said they didn't test him for H1N1, just assumed that's what it was.) My mom's a nurse, too, and she said she and most of the other nurses have agreed it's too risky.

Now that I went off on that tangent...

NANO! YAY! I'm so excited. This year's turning out to be huge for all the writer friends I know--I have thirteen (at last count) friends doing it this year, which is great, because we can keep each other going. I'm sure you will do fantastically and I look forward to watching your word count go up. :D

Aw, I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, but I'm glad that you're starting to feel better.

Thanks! :) I've definitely had way worse colds but - as I was telling people the other day - there's a whole new cultural shift about how to act when you are sick (at least at the moment). It used to be "well, you're not bleeding, are you? Then why aren't you at work?!" So, this whole "you have the sniffles, stay home" thing is Freaking. Me. Out.

*nods* I don't ever get the flu shot either. I'm sure I've had it many times, but the flu shot is just (excuse the pun) a shot in the dark. For those at high risk, though, I certainly see the value.

People are getting told, too, that they have swine flu and not even being tested for it.

I know!! Which annoys the crap out of me, because as far as I can tell, the symptoms are exactly the same as any other flu!! Aarrrrggghhh!!

NANO! YAY! I'm so excited.

I'm getting there...I'm just looking forward to being able to "release the hounds" on November 1st!! LOL I'm hoping I can remember everything I've written so far in my head and see how far I can go with it...

I'm sure you will do fantastically and I look forward to watching your word count go up. :D

Thanks! Right back at ya!! *bounces nervously as checks the time* ;D

Glad you're feeling better! People are really freaking out about this H1N1 thing now.... Dunno if I want to get Loen the shot; he's been so much more healthy since the last round of antibiotics in April and I kind of think the flu we had in April was the H1N1 (before the realized that it was out here).

Anyway, I'm going to do NaNoWriMo this year, too! I've always wanted to, but never remembered or was reminded until mid to late November, which would have been waaaay too late to start!

Thanks! And this H1N1 thing reminds me of the Y2K panic all over again. Much ado about nothing at all. Not that the H1N1 isn't a true threat (my mother used to tell me about the effects of the Spanish Flu, and she wasn't even alive when it happened), but I don't think we need to be quite so paranoid, either.

Yeah, you'd definitely want to discuss it with your paediatrician before making a decision. The vaccine has just been released here in Canada, and of course I need to wait until I'm completely over my cold before I get the shot (if I do...).

Anyway, I'm going to do NaNoWriMo this year, too!

Awesome!! Good luck on that!! Are you registered on the official Nano site? If so, would you like to be writing buddies?? I registered with the same username, so I should be easily found. :)

I know, I'm not really worried about H1N1 since Loen isn't getting so many wicked high fevers anymore. Plus, I think that's the flu we had back in April, before they realized it was out here. (Though I hear it's morphed a little, so that might not make us immune.)

Yes! I'm onceiwasaturtle at nanwrimo, too! I just added you as a buddy. Keep me motivated, I tend to get distracted and forget to write!!! :-)

Quotes

"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need...fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little --"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

-- Susan and Death in Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

"And no practical definition of freedom would be complete without the freedom to take the consequences. Indeed, it is the freedom upon which all the others are based."

-- Lord Vetinari in Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.

-- Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

As a wizard, it was something that Ponder had only before encountered in acorns: a tiny soundless voice which said, yes, I am but a small, green, simple object - but I dream about forests.

-- Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

In the 24th century, there will be no hunger. There will be no greed. And every child will know how to read.

-- Gene Roddenberry, as repeated by Jonathan Frakes in the documentary How William Shatner Changed the World

---------------------

We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make
And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way.

-- Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Hard Way from the album Come On, Come On

---------------------

Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want.

-- John Mayer, Waiting on the World to Change from the album Continuum

---------------------

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."

-- Mary Anne Radmacher, as seen in Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Tales to Inspire

---------------------

I never loved the soldier
Until there was a war.
Or thought about tomorrow
'til my baby hit the floor.
I only talk to God
When somebody's about to die.
I never cherished freedom
Freedom never cries.

-- Five for Fighting, Freedom Never Cries from the album Two Lights

---------------------

It may sound absurd: but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed: but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream

-- Five for Fighting, Superman (It's Not Easy) from the album American Town

---------------------

Had a dream last night took a time travellin' ride
Back to my childhood where those monsters reside
They snack on innocence and dine on self-esteem
But I like to be in touch with what makes me scream
Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost
These are the things that terrify me the most.
No alien, psychopath or MTV host
Scares me like vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost.

-- Jimmy Buffett, Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost from the album Fruitcakes

---------------------

"I want to believe that... the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us... as part of something greater than us - greater than any alien force. And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen, to what's speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves."
