Random Update, updated randomly

Just a few things...

1.  I'm doing a beta for an LJ'er I met on writeordie who had a monster fic and no one to beta.  I'm on chapter 11/12 and it's an awesome fic!!  Once it goes live, I'll post the link here.  Scifi, original, slash and one of the main characters is hitting every one of my favorite character kinks.  guuuhhh.

2.  I've let all my remaining BigBangs go.  I'll have to update my BigBang post...maybe this weekend.  :)  Mainly because I've run out of inspiration (at the moment), but also because I want to finish my monster origfic, A Life Less Ordinary, and get it posted and then move on to refining it.

3.  I'm also really, REALLY missing Jericho lately, especially my Beck/Heather fics and peeps.  With new comics starting to come out this month, and Netflix (still?) negotiating with CBS to make new episodes for delivery through Netflix, I've been feeling the urge to write more Beck/Heather again.  Specifically, getting Oasis moving again.  The sad part is, that fic has been completely mapped out - I just need to write/refine it!!  guuuuuhhhh!!!

4.  In personal life, my boss is retiring.  :(  I'll miss him a lot (A LOT!!) - July 17th is his last day, and I'm going to be a mess, and not just because I have to make a (short) speech.  We've worked directly together for 8 years; 10 years if you count various projects, etc.  He's my record holder...I've never worked for anybody for that long!!  And of course no word yet on who's goiing to be my new boss.  Sigh.

5.  I watched Sherlock Holmes:  A Game of Shadows on Sunday.  It was...unfortunate.  Robert Downey Jr. = believable and gorgeous, as always.  His chemistry with Jude Law = flawless.  The not-so-subtle hints of homosexuality/romantic love between Holmes and Watson = hilarious and poignant all at the same time.  Holmes' chemistry with Mrs. Hudson = off the charts.  Too bad the movie was just so...dull.  Plus they played up Holmes' eccentricities to the point of slapstick, and then some scenes were just WTF - like the one between Mycroft and Mary...What, exactly, was the POINT of that??  The movie had its moments - but about halfway (?) through I found myself staring at the TV going "I have no idea what they're doing or why, nor do I care.  Maybe I should fast forward until something looks interesting..."  Sigh.  Well, maybe it'll improve on a second viewing...and I should re-read the books/short stories...

And...that's it.  Nice and random!!  :D  Happy Tuesday, everybody!

It's scary getting a new boss! And sad to lose a good one!! But here's hoping the next boss is a good one, too. :)

Thank you - and it can certainly be unsettling when you get a new boss. I just found out who will be my interim boss and...it's going to be interesting. :)

Sorry for taking so long to respond - I've been distracted by shiny things. :)

Picked up the latest Jericho comic last week and will be scanning it shortly for the Jericho fans on my flist. The dream sounds yummy...*stares dreamily into space*. I've been trying to think of ways of getting Beck into and out of a suit, but so far, nothing worth posting. *cough*

And now I really want to know what you tried to type instead of fanfic!! :D

Quotes

"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need...fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little --"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

-- Susan and Death in Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

"And no practical definition of freedom would be complete without the freedom to take the consequences. Indeed, it is the freedom upon which all the others are based."

-- Lord Vetinari in Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.

-- Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

As a wizard, it was something that Ponder had only before encountered in acorns: a tiny soundless voice which said, yes, I am but a small, green, simple object - but I dream about forests.

-- Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

In the 24th century, there will be no hunger. There will be no greed. And every child will know how to read.

-- Gene Roddenberry, as repeated by Jonathan Frakes in the documentary How William Shatner Changed the World

---------------------

We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make
And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way.

-- Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Hard Way from the album Come On, Come On

---------------------

Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want.

-- John Mayer, Waiting on the World to Change from the album Continuum

---------------------

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."

-- Mary Anne Radmacher, as seen in Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Tales to Inspire

---------------------

I never loved the soldier
Until there was a war.
Or thought about tomorrow
'til my baby hit the floor.
I only talk to God
When somebody's about to die.
I never cherished freedom
Freedom never cries.

-- Five for Fighting, Freedom Never Cries from the album Two Lights

---------------------

It may sound absurd: but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed: but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream

-- Five for Fighting, Superman (It's Not Easy) from the album American Town

---------------------

Had a dream last night took a time travellin' ride
Back to my childhood where those monsters reside
They snack on innocence and dine on self-esteem
But I like to be in touch with what makes me scream
Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost
These are the things that terrify me the most.
No alien, psychopath or MTV host
Scares me like vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost.

-- Jimmy Buffett, Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost from the album Fruitcakes

---------------------

"I want to believe that... the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us... as part of something greater than us - greater than any alien force. And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen, to what's speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves."

-- Fox Mulder, The X-Files from the episode The Truth, pt. 2
