Information re my new story

Hi all - I wanted to give some explanation on what my latest Heck project is all about...I also realize that if I have to explain it, there's something seriously wrong somewhere, but...well, when you read this, I think you'll understand.  :)

As I mentioned in my previous post, I've been chased playing with a plot bunny for the  letter100 community.   I also mentioned that, because I'm nuts, I've signed up for all the tables and all of the claims, for a grand total of 800 letters in all.

Before anybody panics:  there may be 800 letters but they are not all going to be long/convoluted/etc., etc.  Some will be fairly long while others are short and sweet and barely over the minimum 100 words.

I've created a new community called  oasis_fanfic where I will be posting all of the letters as individual entries.  The membership is closed (right now), but commenting is open.   I will then post a notice with multiple links to the various communities and this journal.

I've chosen this route for two reasons:  one, so I won't flood f-lists with post after post after post when I have, say, 5 letters ready to go.

Two, I want to post the letters separately rather than (say) three in one post because  I'm trying a bit of an experiment.  The letters will all flow together and form one story/universe, however, my intent is that  the reader(s) can read the story in at least two different ways: you can read the letters in date order OR you can read them based on the person Beck is writing to.   In other words, each series of letters to a particular recipient is intended to be it's own "mini-story" - not unconnected, but you could, for example, read only the letters Beck writes to Heather and not be totally confused or lost.

I have no idea if I'm going to be successful - I won't really be able to tell until the entire series is completed - but I'm rather intrigued and excited by the concept...and I'm wondering if I'm going to be up to the challenge...

I will likely be playing with the posting date function for how entries show up in a community/journal.  Why?  I'm writing letters solely from Beck to other people.  If anybody feels the urge to write a response to one (or more) of Beck's letters and would like to post that response to this community I've set up,  I would LOVE IT (it would be another exciting experimental thing) - and it would be awesome to be able to allow people to make response(s) as separate entries that would show up in the right spot.  :)   I realize that this is probably similar to a role playing community, except that Beck's letters are pre-set - that is, he wouldn't be responding to the response...hmmm...{ponders} - ah, I'm just concerned with posting my story without driving people crazy - anything other than that is gravy (and no expectations)!!  LOL

So, yes, there's something seriously wrong somewhere (probably my sanity), but I'm looking forward to this.  :)  AND to continuing Lost Sheep of course (what's in my head is awesome; how it will translate to paper/screen is anybody's guess LOL ).

This sounds super fantastic and interesting! I'm looking forward to what you're going to come up.

And I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Thank you!! And I'm so happy to see you come out to play (even if it's only for a little while - LOL). I've already read your update twice; I just haven't had a chance to post a comment. But I will! :)

And I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to the experiment, that's for sure. :)

This sounds very interesting! I love letter!fics. I actually miss writing real letters, the only person I still write to in that format is my mother.

To completely display my ignorance, what fandom do Heather and Beck come from?

Good luck!

Thanks! I like letter!fics, but I'm also (in this case) rather intrigued by seeing only one side of the story...sorta-kinda.

To completely display my ignorance, what fandom do Heather and Beck come from?

LOL - no worries. If I recall correctly, I didn't know anything about the fandom your story came from either! :) Anyway, Heather and Beck are from a TV show called Jericho. I'll have to experiment with this new community and get some pictures or something posted...

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it. :)

Thank you! It'll be interesting to see if I can make it work... ;) (If nothing else, I'll have a lot of fun trying to make it work. *g* )

Following your link here...this is awesome. The idea behind the letters and everything is so neat. Can I ask how many you've done?

Thanks! :) I have no idea why I thought of it - or why I think I can even do it...*headpalm*

I've posted five letters so far (and all my fics are open to anybody - or they should be... ;) ). I've got first drafts of another 35, and in total about 140 "plotted" out as to timeline/recipient. In terms of the over-all story, it's plotted out in relation to the timelines and "big" things, with at least two of the "mini-stories" semi-plotted out as well.

My biggest problem is that I don't write sequentially, so the 35 that are in first draft are scattered throughout the timeline. Which is why I'm not sure if the "mini-stories" will actually work until I'm completely done...but boy, I'm having fun trying!! :)

My biggest fear is that the process will be more interesting than the resulting fic...*ponders*...

LOL - more information than you probably wanted!! :)
