Random Update...

...part 2.  Sorry for what feels like spamming but, well...it's been awhile.  :)

Okay...

1.  ScriptFrenzy - I'm at 89/100 pages and only about 1/4 of the way through the story...  O.O  Most of it is crap and will be tossed during editing so I'm not really worried about the length of it.  I'm going to make 100 pages without a problem but I also want to at least get the full structure of the story written before April 30th - and that may be the bigger challenge!!

2.  NaNoWriMo Novel - has been sitting on my computer, patiently waiting to be edited enough to share publicly.  And it's going to keep waiting, at least for a little while longer.

3.  Oasis - I'm planning on releasing another five letters or so tomorrow (or tonight).  I posted 20 or so a few weeks ago, but just never made them public.  Since ScriptFrenzy started, I haven't worked too much on the next set of letters, and I probably won't until May.  However, I'm planning on speeding things up because I don't really want to be finishing this epic off in 2015.  :D

4.  StoryLottery - another challenge that finishes April 30th.  Seven prompts - and I (because I can't seem to write one-offs) have a seven chapter story about half-written.  So...I'll be finishing THAT off and posting it as soon as it's done.  Hopefully, in the next week or so).

5.  Random Heck Fic - Yes, I have several little fics sitting forlornly on my computer.  I think there are...three of them???  Maybe only two...anyway, I want to get those cleared up and posted as well.

6.  Bones Fic - yes, a different fandom (OMG!!!).  I have two little ficlets in my head; one is written out in longhand and I just need to type it and edit it (a lot) and the other one is still in my head.  They're short, though - a couple of hundred words at best - but I need to get them out and done so they'll Quit.  Bothering.  Me.  LOL

7.  Now for something completely different...I realized a month or two ago that I know enough people with the appropriate skills to be able to start a small press book publishing company, which I would run as a hobby/sideline.  My biggest areas of weakness are marketing and distribution...which just happen to be THE two most important pieces of book publishing.   Although I think I may have somebody who could do the marketing.  Distribution, though, is a whole other kettle of fish.  Anyway, I'm planning on sitting down in May and crafting a business plan, doing some research into marketing/distribution, getting price quotes from the people I know for editing, graphic design, printing, etc., etc., basically setting out the feasibility of it.  Then, my plan is to test run everything using my NaNo novel.  Which sounds like a vanity press, I know, but is actually a very deliberate decision on my part.  Because I've never done something like this before, and because I have no idea if I can actually DO it (or what pitfalls may be encountered), using my NaNo novel would allow me to test everything without harming anybody's interests but my own.  This strategy will allow me to figure out Amazon (for example), and (maybe) print-on-demand shops, and all the other things that go into publishing a book.  I don't expect to sell even one copy, but what I'll learn from going through the process would be invaluable and then I can assess whether it's something I can do on the side and do it well enough that I CAN do it for others and not "fail" them.

So, not much going on at all...  :D  And for April, my main focus is to finish off a bunch of things and start May with a relatively clean slate, writing-wise...and take it from there....

Hee! Yes - at least in my head. I need to sit down at the keyboard and just write for a full day, I think, and I'd get at least my other Bones fic and my StoryLottery challenge done.

This working for a living really cuts into my writing time. :D

It sure does! I haven't even touched any of my stories for weeks now.... :-(

(But more free time is on the horizon for me -- my office will be moving to a location 4 miles from my house in July! Hopefully, I can use some of the nealy 2 hours a day that will free up for me to write or edit or something!!!)

Wow, you've been on a roll with the writing!

And that is awesome that you're looking into the feasibility of a small press book publishing. I hope you keep us appraised on your journey with that!

Thanks - and don't worry, I will! LOL It'll be interesting to see how it all works. :)

Quotes

"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need...fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little --"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

-- Susan and Death in Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

"And no practical definition of freedom would be complete without the freedom to take the consequences. Indeed, it is the freedom upon which all the others are based."

-- Lord Vetinari in Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.

-- Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

As a wizard, it was something that Ponder had only before encountered in acorns: a tiny soundless voice which said, yes, I am but a small, green, simple object - but I dream about forests.

-- Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

In the 24th century, there will be no hunger. There will be no greed. And every child will know how to read.

-- Gene Roddenberry, as repeated by Jonathan Frakes in the documentary How William Shatner Changed the World

---------------------

We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make
And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way.

-- Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Hard Way from the album Come On, Come On

---------------------

Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want.

-- John Mayer, Waiting on the World to Change from the album Continuum

---------------------

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."

-- Mary Anne Radmacher, as seen in Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Tales to Inspire

---------------------

I never loved the soldier
Until there was a war.
Or thought about tomorrow
'til my baby hit the floor.
I only talk to God
When somebody's about to die.
I never cherished freedom
Freedom never cries.

-- Five for Fighting, Freedom Never Cries from the album Two Lights

---------------------

It may sound absurd: but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed: but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream

-- Five for Fighting, Superman (It's Not Easy) from the album American Town

---------------------

Had a dream last night took a time travellin' ride
Back to my childhood where those monsters reside
They snack on innocence and dine on self-esteem
But I like to be in touch with what makes me scream
Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost
These are the things that terrify me the most.
No alien, psychopath or MTV host
Scares me like vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost.

-- Jimmy Buffett, Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost from the album Fruitcakes

---------------------

"I want to believe that... the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us... as part of something greater than us - greater than any alien force. And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen, to what's speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves."

-- Fox Mulder, The X-Files from the episode The Truth, pt. 2
