I'm desperately in need of some light and fluffy stuff due to some incredibly horrible real-life reasons.  I won't go into details  but this poor woman's father is my former boss

To say the least, it has been an INCREDIBLY crappy few days.

Anyway, because I'm desperately trying to find happy things to think about, I went searching for news on the Jericho comic.  Sadly, not so light and fluffy on that front, either....  :(

Devil's Due Publishing in Major Financial Trouble

So, if anyone wants to share a fluffy Heck story or chapter (hint, hint) (or, really, any light and fluffy story) please, please, please do so.  I'm trying to write one myself but I'm not making much headway at the moment - although the act of trying does give me the distraction I need.

(and even though it may not sound like it, I do know it's not all about me.  :(  )

I'm sorry to hear about Sherri; that kind of thing always makes me sad and I can only imagine how much worse it must be for you. :(

I don't have time to write anything light and fluffy right now (being on lunchbreak at work), but I did start a story a few days ago. It doesn't start out light and fluffy, though, and I'm not sure how it will end yet, so be warned.... http://onceiwasaturtle.livejournal.com/338659.html (Also, I probably won't write anything on it for awhile ... in a fit of insanity, I signed up for JulNoWriMo -- like I need anything else to do this month!!!)

Thanks, Liza. I never met her, but I certainly heard about her from her father. And I'm very fond of her father as well; he was one of the best bosses I ever had. It's just incredibly tragic. :(

I'd noticed you'd signed up for JulNoWriMo and I meant to comment on your post about that. (You go, girl! :D) I've been busy the last few weekends getting my fence built; I'm hoping my weekends will be my own again now that that's done.

I will check out your latest story in the next few days. :)

That sort of thing is very tragic. :(

Hehe. ^^ It would help if I actually spent any time writing.... :p

Cool! It kind of seems like fluff to me, as the writer, since I haven't named and don't really plan on naming the characters; it's just a bit that I started and I have no idea where it's going (or even where it came from). But I do have a notable reluctance to name characters recently, so that might change I guess, especially since I said something about it here. :)

Yes, it is. It's apparently suicide, but I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse for the family. :(

Nothing wrong with that. Isn't there a whole series of mystery novels with a detective with no name? :)

that might change I guess, especially since I said something about it here. :)

Yes, strange how putting it in writing in cyberspace makes it either doable or a promise. LOL And I mean that in the best possible way.

Thanks for the kind words and helping me with my request. :)

I think it would make it worse; they wouldn't have an easily identifiable villain to blame it all on. :( I hope they get through this ok....

I'm sorry Real Life is being so awful. {{{hugs}}}

You may have read this already, but in case you haven't, you might like Take a cup of kindness yet, in which Beck invites Heather to join him for a glass of scotch for the first time. Umm, I think there's one moment of Beck angst, but mostly it's teasing and light flirting and being a little awkward around each other....

Thanks - I needed that. :)

I thought I'd read your story but apparently not because it didn't seem familiar when I read it last night. So, thank you so much for the link - it was just what I needed.

Quotes

"All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need...fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little --"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

-- Susan and Death in Hogfather by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

"And no practical definition of freedom would be complete without the freedom to take the consequences. Indeed, it is the freedom upon which all the others are based."

-- Lord Vetinari in Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.

-- Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

As a wizard, it was something that Ponder had only before encountered in acorns: a tiny soundless voice which said, yes, I am but a small, green, simple object - but I dream about forests.

-- Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett

---------------------

In the 24th century, there will be no hunger. There will be no greed. And every child will know how to read.

-- Gene Roddenberry, as repeated by Jonathan Frakes in the documentary How William Shatner Changed the World

---------------------

We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make
And the world won't stop, and actions speak louder
Listen to your heart, and what your heart might say
Everything we got, we got the hard way.

-- Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Hard Way from the album Come On, Come On

---------------------

Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want.

-- John Mayer, Waiting on the World to Change from the album Continuum

---------------------

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says, "I'll try again tomorrow."

-- Mary Anne Radmacher, as seen in Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Tales to Inspire

---------------------

I never loved the soldier
Until there was a war.
Or thought about tomorrow
'til my baby hit the floor.
I only talk to God
When somebody's about to die.
I never cherished freedom
Freedom never cries.

-- Five for Fighting, Freedom Never Cries from the album Two Lights

---------------------

It may sound absurd: but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed: but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream

-- Five for Fighting, Superman (It's Not Easy) from the album American Town

---------------------

Had a dream last night took a time travellin' ride
Back to my childhood where those monsters reside
They snack on innocence and dine on self-esteem
But I like to be in touch with what makes me scream
Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost
These are the things that terrify me the most.
No alien, psychopath or MTV host
Scares me like vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost.

-- Jimmy Buffett, Vampires, Mummies and the Holy Ghost from the album Fruitcakes

---------------------

"I want to believe that... the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us... as part of something greater than us - greater than any alien force. And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen, to what's speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves."

-- Fox Mulder, The X-Files from the episode The Truth, pt. 2
